从OK到exceptional，英文中的“好”到底有几种说法？在我的记忆中，我学会的第一个英文单词是“OK”，现在汉语也逐渐接纳了这个舶来语，东北话更是直接简化为“O了”，也就是OK的意思。那么OK什么意思呢，当然是汉语中“好”的意思。然而，“好”到底能有多好呢？汉语中我们通常会在“好”前面加上一些程度副词，比如说“很好”，“非常好”，“相当好”，甚至是“真TMD好”等等。
说实话，汉语中即使在“好”前面加了这么多程度副词，但具体好到什么程度，很大程度上也是见仁见智。大家可能都有这样的体会，刚开始学习英语的时候，由于单词量匮乏，更主要的是受汉语思维的影响，我们会习惯性地用汉语的定势去理解英语。比如说“很好”这个词怎么用英文表达？
假如我们就会一个英文中修饰“好”的单词“OK”，那么“非常好”就应该是“very OK”; “相当好”顺理成章就是“very very OK”。而当我们英语词汇量多点了以后会发现，即使是“very very OK”也赶不上一个“good”。
可随着我们进一步对英语的学习，尤其是跟真正的老外接触多了，会发现一个有趣的现象，很多老外跟你聊天或讨论问题，无论你说什么他们都“good, good, very good”。当我们第一次听到老外对自己的工作“interesting”（感兴趣）的时候，那种感觉真得很爽。
可是，当我们跟这帮老外进一步熟悉以后会发现，这帮鬼子原来是你说啥他都“good, good, interesting”不离嘴，简直就是他们的口头令。然而英文中对“好”程度的界定其实是有很明确的单词的。
我们以澳洲基金评审申请打分的标准为例，具体解释一下英文中“好”到底能好到了什么程度：A: Exceptional- Of the higest quality and at the forefrontof research in the field. Approximately 5% of the propsoals should receiveratings in this band. Recommend unconditionally. 这里“最好”的英文单词其实是“Exceptional”，类似于我们的成语“无与伦比”？
通常占所有申请书的前5%，这样的基金评分100%会拿到的。
B: Outstanding- High quality research and a stronglycompetitive proposal. Approximately of 15% of proposals should receive ratingsin this band. Strongly support recommendation of funding.
